Speaking at the preview of the Austrian Grand Prix on SkySportF1, Carlo Vanzini provided an update on the situation at Scuderia Ferrari, focusing on the updates made by the Maranello team to the SF-23.
According to the Italian journalist, the updates introduced on the red car should allow Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz to fight for at least a podium position. However, Carlo Vanzini also emphasized the need for caution in such cases, considering the unmet expectations at the beginning of the 2023 Formula 1 season. Here is his analysis:
Carlo Vanzini’s analysis ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix:
“The real key test will be at Silverstone, where there are fast corners. Austria is an opportunity because what we saw in Canada can be carried over to Austria with performance updates,” Vanzini begins his analysis on SkySportF1.
He then explains his statement: “The updates introduced in Barcelona – the sidepods, the modifications – were technical road directions to be undertaken with the car. When Fred Vasseur said in Barcelona that the updates had worked, many laughed and wondered, ‘What did he have for lunch today?’ But they indeed worked because I then heard that during the two days of Pirelli testing, they found gold, meaning they found the right path. Now, this correct path will have the first performance package, which should allow the two Ferrari drivers to at least fight for a podium position, something they could have easily done in Canada if it hadn’t been for qualifying.” – he pointed out.
However, the journalist doesn’t fully trust the rumors: “But, you know, with Ferrari, I would wait until the checkered flag. Because when they say, ‘We found gold,’ it also brings to mind the words from the presentation: ‘The fastest Ferrari ever,’ while so far, it has been the biggest disappointment ever.” – Carlo Vanzini concluded.
