John Elkann, after being criticized last year for trusting the Ferrari technicians and Team Principal Mattia Binotto, is seeing his choices pay off at the start of the 2021 Formula 1 season.

Among the protagonists of Scuderia Ferrari ‘s redemption in the first two races of the 2021 world championship there is certainly John Elkann, who after the many criticisms suffered last year is taking “revenge”. In fact, already during the lockdown, he received the first accusations of disinterested in the team and having delegated all the sporting part to Louis Camilleri.

One of the main reasons was that in April Ferrari officially announced that Sebastian Vettel would leave the team at the end of the season and the signing of Carlos Sainz for 2021 and 2022. Many thought that making that announcement before the start of the championship was a mistake, and the situation worsened when the Formula 1 world championship finally began in Austria.

At the Red Bull Ring, Ferrari proved that it hadn’t bluffed in the tests. Elkann ended up in the crosshairs for the agreement with the FIA after the investigation on the 2019 power unit, and a non-competitive SF1000 would have forced him to live a very difficult season.

But unlike in the past, John Elkann decided not to start yet another technical revolution in Ferrari, defending Mattia Binotto and his men. The president saw his confidence repaid already at the end of the season: it was in Bahrain, but above all in Imola where Ferrari came close to the podium.
