There is now less than a week left before the presentation of the SF-23 challenger, the car that Ferrari will entrust to Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz for the 2023 Formula 1 championship. A championship in which the Prancing Horse’s only goal will be to win the world titles, as explained by the team principal, Frederic Vasseur, in the latest interviews released. To try to reach the ambitious target, it will be necessary for the new car designed in Maranello to prove an even better one than the F1-75 which finished second in the previous Formula 1 season.
In this regard, today’s edition of the Italian daily newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport has published a long study of the new Maranello single-seater.
As we now know the name, there is great expectation to see the new Ferrari single-seater and analyse its technical features. Some previews come from La Gazzetta dello Sport, which refers to a car that will “closely resemble last season’s F1-75, retaining the distinctive features represented by the sidespods with the hollowed upper profile and the large cooling “gills”.
With reference to the bodywork, the Italian newspaper reports that the rear part “will be characterized by a horizontal section, to facilitate the dissipation of heat, with a reduction (in terms of number and section) of the slits mentioned above. A clue, which goes in this direction, was provided by the Alfa Romeo Sauber C43 yesterday, which was the first real novelty of 2023.
Despite the philosophy of the Swiss single-seater, in terms of macro aerodynamic concept, being different from the one that the SF-23 will adopt and instead more similar in inspiration to Red Bull of 2022, with sloping sides at the rear. On the C43, this choice implied the adoption of a rather voluminous “tail” to guarantee heat exchange to the power unit, which is supplied by Ferrari. The SF23, on the contrary, will not need a rear vent for the air coming out of the radiators that is so conspicuous”.

The T-section bodywork, continues the newspaper, will be adopted “for a mainly aerodynamic reason on the new Ferrari car. It would serve to direct the flows directly onto the lower profile of the rear wing, thus increasing air extraction from the diffuser”.
On the evolution side, however, according to the Gazzetta, the first changes “will already be visible in the testing session in Bahrain, to be evaluated in view of the first Grand Prix (March 5). These changes will concern the side section of the underbody and the area in front of the rear wheels. It must be assumed that the development program for this car will be decidedly denser and longer than that applied to the F1-75″. The choice of the Maranello team would be linked to two factors. One of a strategic nature and the other linked to the “better understanding of the concepts of ground effect cars”.
Finally there is the topic of secrets, which will be hidden under a shell very similar to that of the F1-75. “The results of those analyzes – says Gazzetta dello Sport referring to the Ferrari tests at the end of last season – will be seen immediately, with a car that will show a strong familiarity with the previous one in terms of forms, but only in appearance. The details, as always, will make the difference, and in Maranello they are ready to face the challenge. Achieving the objectives that team principal Frederic Vasseur has indicated (winning both world titles) does not allow for approximations, especially on the car’s development programme”.
