“People coming in, people going out!” In Ferrari, the engineer market is livelier than ever, and some rivals are trying to take advantage of it.
The arrival of Frédéric Vasseur at the Maranello court has triggered a silent revolution for Ferrari, which has been in progress on the engineer market for months and is set to intensify.
Scouting actions by the Prancing Horse are not new, and the new team principal has never tried to deny them. Upon his return from the summer break, the French manager had announced several imminent official announcements: “Before finalizing everything, including agreements with the current teams of the engineers, it is important to maintain confidentiality and a good approach not to compromise anything. Soon we will make announcements,” he told the media, including F1inGenerale.com.
Patience is a virtue of the strong, and in the engineer market, there is a great need for patience. The gardening period to be respected, in fact, requires a prolongation of the wait, especially for the “Top Guys” like Loic Serra, currently with Mercedes, whom the Prancing Horse hopes to welcome even before 2025.
The dynamism of the new Ferrari in recruiting engineers must be combined with market waiting times: “It will take time. That’s how it works in Formula 1. Six months of waiting are enough for a junior engineer, 18 for a senior one. We have already hired 25 new technicians, each with different settling times,” the 55-year-old French manager revealed a few months ago.
The remodelling of the Ferrari Racing Division structure has continued in recent months and is set to continue in the months to come, with expected announcements in every department of the GeS. The 2024 car project “will be directed by Enrico Cardile, but new faces will arrive in every sector. In some areas, we are understaffed compared to Red Bull, Mercedes, or Aston Martin,” Fred Vasseur explained, indicating the desire to hire staff from outside Ferrari to “bring in knowledge from the outside.”

The many incoming staff expected in the near future also presuppose several departures. In this context, in the days following the United States Grand Prix in Austin, news came of Eric Meignan’s move to Alpine. The engineer, who recently parted ways with Maranello, took over the power unit area in Viry Chatillon in October.
Paddock rumors suggest several departures. Some important engineers from the power unit department (the same one as Eric Meignan), currently with the Italian team, are reportedly about to bid farewell to Maranello for other destinations. Possible destinations for this window include Honda and Audi.
