After yet another difficult weekend, even Charles Leclerc seems to have thrown in the towel, openly admitting Ferrari’s real performance level in this 2025 Formula 1 season. When even the team’s most optimistic driver stops believing, it becomes clear that the situation is far from encouraging. Over the past months, Charles Leclerc has often been one of the few to highlight the positives in Ferrari’s campaign and to express hope for a stronger end to the year filled with podiums and victories.
The Singapore Grand Prix weekend, however, appears to have broken that optimism. Continuous lift-and-coast management, a lack of overall pace, and persistent brake problems left the Monegasque visibly dejected when speaking to journalists at Marina Bay. His body language and words reflected a driver aware that Ferrari is currently falling short of expectations.
Even Charles Leclerc has lost confidence
Car number 16 offered a clear and honest assessment of the current pecking order in Formula 1, comparing Ferrari’s position to that of their direct rivals. “Unfortunately, we don’t have a car capable of fighting for victories. McLaren has been ahead since the start of the year, and Red Bull made a step forward at Monza. Now they’re at the same level as McLaren, just like Mercedes. Then there’s us. Right now, we’re the fourth fastest team on the grid,” said a disappointed Charles Leclerc after finishing sixth in Singapore.
The Ferrari driver went on to explain how frustrating the situation feels from inside the cockpit. “It’s definitely not easy because you always want to fight for better positions. But at the moment, we’re just passengers in the car and can’t extract much more performance from it,” Charles Leclerc added, clearly illustrating the sense of resignation within the Maranello camp.
His comments underline a growing concern among Ferrari fans that the team has lost touch with the top three competitors. Despite ongoing development work and upgrades introduced throughout the season, the gap to McLaren, Red Bull, and Mercedes appears to have widened instead of closing. For Charles Leclerc, who has always been known for his determination and belief in Ferrari’s potential, admitting such a reality marks one of the lowest points of the Scuderia’s 2025 campaign.
