F1, Ferrari: Carlos Sainz reveals key area he needs to improve to be more competitive in Austin. Carlos Sainz reflects on key area he needs to improve to be more competitive at COTA.

Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz will start the United States Grand Prix from the second row following Friday’s qualifying session that granted the Maranello team another pole position in 2023, thanks to Charles Leclerc’s stellar performance. The other driver for the Italian team, Carlos Sainz, finds himself regretting his fourth-place finish at the end of the fiercely competitive Q3.

Last year, the Spaniard managed to secure a pole position with an outstanding final sector, but he couldn’t replicate that performance on Friday in Austin, where he lost the two-tenths that cost him the fight for the pole right in that segment of the track.

As a result, Carlos Sainz will start from the second row with the fourth-best time, alongside Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes. On the front row, in addition to pole-sitter Charles Leclerc, there will be the McLaren Mercedes of Lando Norris. Carlos Sainz’s role in the race could prove crucial, perhaps in an attempt to contain Max Verstappen, who will start right behind him from the sixth spot on the grid.

Carlos Sainz’s comments: “It wasn’t a bad qualifying. I had difficulties in the final sector, where I lost those two tenths. Tomorrow, I’ll try to improve precisely in that part of the track. It’s curious that it’s my weak point, especially when, in 2022, it was the key to securing the pole. So, I think I’ll make some changes to the car for tomorrow because the rest of the lap went more or less well, and it seems like we are in good shape. Clearly, having limited free practice is a disadvantage, but congratulations to Charles for securing the pole for the team. Knowing that we can get the pole on this type of circuit is great news. We’ll try to bring home important points. I’ll fight for the pole in the Sprint, and starting fourth on Sunday isn’t bad.” – the Spaniard explained, pointing out the key area he needs to improve to be more competitive in Austin on Saturday and Sunday.
