We have reached the final stop of this triple header. On Sunday (3:00 PM) the Spanish Grand Prix will take place in Barcelona. This Grand Prix carries significant weight, as this weekend marks the introduction of the new technical directive regarding the front wing. Ferrari Team Principal Fred Vasseur has made his initial comments ahead of the Barcelona Grand Prix. Fred Vasseur has clear objectives but also emphasized that the new TD should not be underestimated.
Barcelona, according to some team principals, including Fred Vasseur, could be a turning point race. The impact of this new directive on the championship could be substantial enough to reopen the title fight. Ferrari is placing a lot of hope on this GP.
Fred Vasseur’s confidence
Ferrari arrives in Barcelona with confidence after the excellent result in Monaco and a return to competitiveness in qualifying. Fred Vasseur stated: “The Spanish Grand Prix marks the start of the second third of the season and Barcelona is a circuit well known to both teams and drivers. We are coming off two positive races and in Monaco we also made progress in qualifying.” – the French manager pointed out.
The path Ferrari has taken seems to be yielding the expected results. Fred Vasseur was clear: “The objective for the weekend is to continue along this path.”
All teams from Barcelona onward will have to deal with the new technical directive on front wings. Will Ferrari benefit from it? Teams will only begin to get answers from Friday’s free practice sessions, where they can gather data and make direct comparisons with their rivals. Fred Vasseur admitted: “In Barcelona, more stringent static tests on front wing flexibility will also debut, and that too will be an aspect to keep in mind.”
