F1, Ferrari: a new floor specification on the SF21 at Imola. a new floor specification on the SF21 at Imola.

Ferrari SF21 rear

The latest addition to Ferrari confirms the good feelings experienced in Bahrain. The two SF21 cars once again showed a very important feature, this time on the Imola track, which is the ability to get an immediately good set-up. This factor is very important. In addition to underlining the progress of the 2021 project, this important feature signals that the work done on the simulator before the race weekend is finally useful, immediately finding the basis of the set-up on which to then work during free practice. The right correlation between data and track bodes well.

In addition to technical innovations, during the first session on Friday one other novelty could be noticed. By diversifying the work between the two cars, a new floor specification was mounted on car number 55. As we can easily observe in the photographic comparison below, the technicians of the Prancing Horse once again went to intervene on the floor with the addition of some elements similar to “staris”, as the floor is one of the most important areas of this 2021.

In the central portion, the three small vortex generators have been replaced by a single vertical bulkhead (red arrows), larger and slightly forward in position. In a different way, this element plays the same role as the previous solution, creating a different swirling flow. Furthermore, it is very interesting to note the cut on the floor immediately behind the bulkhead just discussed. This specification helps to seal the floor, a task in which all the teams have been concentrating in recent months. In fact, by finding the right configuration in this area, many aerodynamic load points can be recovered which then turn into precious tenths.
