The Formula 1 series may face difficulties reaching Monaco for the Grand Prix scheduled to take place next week on the streets of Monte Carlo. This is what Marco Codello, Chief Operating Officer of the F1 Support Series Formula 2, stated following the decision to cancel the races in Imola due to local flooding.
“At the moment, our trucks cannot depart. Even our personnel on-site are stranded. Now we have to wait until we can get back on track to pack everything up and ship it to Monaco for the next race.”
The F2 operations director said that with only a few days between the scheduled rounds in Imola and Monaco and the forecast of heavier rain in the Emilia-Romagna region, logistics could be a major issue.
“Formula 2 and Formula 3 need two days to prepare, and Formula 1 requires a little more time. I hope the situation improves, and we will be able to leave Imola on Thursday, but there is no precise plan yet. Perhaps we will stay here and go straight to Monaco, where we should arrive on Monday evening. I imagine the Bologna airport will not only be flooded with water but also crowded with people wanting to go home. But there aren’t many flights, so the only thing we can do at the moment is remain calm. The emergency applies to everyone.” – F2 Chief Operating Officer Marco Codello concluded.
