Scuderia Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc has addressed the media with a mix of confidence and caution regarding the technical updates that the Maranello-based team is bringing to the 2025 Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps. As Formula 1 heads into another Sprint Race weekend, Charles Leclerc explained that while he is hopeful about the improvements, he is choosing to stay guarded in his public comments for now.
The Monegasque driver pointed out that the limited track time during Sprint weekends increases the challenge of evaluating new components, but emphasized that the engineers have been working according to a clear and well-structured development plan that inspires confidence.
“I prefer not to comment”
Charles Leclerc stated that Ferrari has been working on these upgrades for a while, and now the team is pleased to finally introduce them on track.
“I’m fairly confident,” said Charles Leclerc, “because we’ve had too many issues in the past, but this time, the updates seem to be delivering what we expected. I hope they will allow us to take a step forward, although I don’t want to get ahead of myself by making any bold predictions.”
Among the most anticipated developments is Ferrari’s newly revised rear suspension, which is one of the key upgrades being tested this weekend at the iconic Spa-Francorchamps circuit. However, Charles Leclerc remained intentionally vague when asked to share his impressions behind the wheel.
“I can’t comment on the specific behavior of the new suspension,” Charles Leclerc explained, “because these are internal matters and it would be unwise to make broad claims at this stage. We’ll find out more tomorrow, once we run on track.”
Another critical topic Charles Leclerc touched on was how these technical updates could influence his confidence while driving and the overall setup balance of the SF-25 Formula 1 car. The Ferrari driver said he is able to adapt the car setup depending on what he needs from it in terms of performance or driveability.
“If I feel I need more confidence, I can modify the setup to get it,” Charles Leclerc added. “But for now, I prefer to focus on maximizing performance rather than just looking for comfort. That approach doesn’t always pay off, as we saw at Silverstone, where I had major difficulties in the wet conditions.”
While Charles Leclerc avoided revealing too much detail, his comments suggest that Ferrari believes in the potential of its latest developments. As the weekend unfolds, all eyes will be on whether these upgrades can help close the gap to rivals and provide a stronger foundation for the second half of the 2025 Formula 1 season.
