Ferrari again distant from rivals in the F1 Canadian GP, Lewis Hamilton in no man’s land: here’s the problem with his SF-25
The F1 Canadian GP is once again a torment for Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari. Starting from fifth after a good qualifying performance, the Briton gradually slips away from the front runners. At the checkered flag, he even finishes behind Charles Leclerc, who delivered an aggressive race and ran at the pace of the McLaren cars. On the SF-25 of the seven-time world champion, however, 20 points of downforce were missing.
Another lackluster race for Ferrari in Canada. While Charles Leclerc seemed able to match the pace of Lando Norris and the other drivers ahead of him, Lewis Hamilton sank into no man’s land. The British driver, once again far behind his teammate, was also unlucky this time: in the early stages of the race, he hit a groundhog that had wandered onto the track, damaging the car and losing about 20 points of downforce.
A race marred by bad luck in Canada: Lewis Hamilton’s words
Interviewed by journalists at the end of the Canadian Grand Prix, the Ferrari driver confirmed concerns about the impact with the (unfortunate) groundhog: “[The damage was to blame], definitely. I was feeling quite good before that moment. I was keeping up well with the group’s pace, then I picked up some damage to the floor. There was a real hole and the aerodynamic appendages were gone.” – he pointed out at the end of the Montreal race – “Then I also had some brake problems, and I can say I’m happy just to have reached the finish line.” As for the much-anticipated updates on the Ferrari, the Briton announced: “I think something will arrive in Austria next week, but I’m not sure how much we can improve.” – the British driver concluded.
