After the Portuguese Grand Prix at Portimao, another race could soon be set to make its return to the Formula 1 calendar. Formula 1 continues to look firmly towards the future, and just a few days before the start of a crucial 2026 season for the entire Circus, attention has already shifted to what the calendar might look like in 2027 and the years beyond.
In recent weeks, the official announcement of Portimao’s return after several seasons away reignited discussions about classic venues coming back to the championship, and another well-known event could soon be added to that list.
Another possible return emerges
It now appears that Formula 1 cars could soon be back on track at Istanbul Park. Reports suggest that negotiations are already at an advanced stage, with the possibility of a multi-year agreement that could be finalised in the coming days. However, there are still some unresolved questions regarding the current state of the Turkish circuit’s infrastructure.
The Formula One Management has reportedly requested and strongly emphasised the need for modernisation works in order to ensure that the venue meets the standards required by today’s Formula 1. As a result, the organisers are said to be searching for local investors willing to commit significant financial resources to support the event and bring the circuit up to the necessary level.
In addition, based on information gathered so far, any potential agreement would be for a permanent place on the calendar. The Turkish Grand Prix would therefore not be included in the rotation system introduced to manage the high number of requests currently on the desk of Stefano Domenicali.
If the return were to be confirmed, the Turkish Grand Prix would represent more than just an additional race. It would be a recovery of sporting identity, bringing back a much-loved circuit, a genuine technical challenge for teams and drivers, and a passionate crowd ready once again to welcome the great spectacle of Formula 1.
