F1 | Austin GP statistics and records: Lewis Hamilton aims to conquer his favourite track again. Discover all the key statistics and historical moments from the United States GP.

Lewis Hamilton, Ferrari SF-25, 2025 F1

The United States Grand Prix in Austin has quickly become one of the most popular events on the Formula 1 calendar. Although it has only been part of the championship since 2012, the Circuit of the Americas already boasts a rich history filled with drama, iconic moments, and memorable races. Its technical layout and unique combination of corners inspired by legendary tracks have made it a favorite for both fans and drivers.

The Austin circuit stretches for 5.513 kilometers and is completed over 56 laps. It runs anti-clockwise, starting with a steep uphill straight that leads to the first left-hand corner — one of the most recognizable and spectacular openings in Formula 1. What follows is a thrilling mix of turns that recall some of the sport’s most famous circuits: the fast, flowing sequence of corners at the start resembles the Maggots-Becketts complex at Silverstone, while other sections draw inspiration from Suzuka, Hockenheim, and Istanbul Park. Thanks to this blend of influences, Austin has earned a special place in the hearts of both drivers and F1 fans around the world.

Decisive races for world championships

The Circuit of the Americas has played a crucial role in the championship battles of recent years. Out of Lewis Hamilton’s seven world titles, two were sealed in Austin. In 2015, the British driver clinched his third Formula 1 world championship at this track, and in 2019, he secured his sixth title here as well. The Texan circuit has also witnessed decisive moments for the Constructors’ Championships. In 2017, Mercedes celebrated its fourth consecutive title, while in 2022, Red Bull Racing captured its first constructors’ crown in eight years, marking another historic milestone at Austin.

Stage of drama and unforgettable moments

The Austin GP has not only been a decisive battleground for championships but also a theater of iconic F1 moments. The last Ferrari world champion, Kimi Räikkönen, returned to victory at this very circuit in 2018 after years of waiting — a triumph that would also become the final win of his career. The race was a reminder of the Finn’s enduring talent and calm determination, making it a cherished memory for Ferrari supporters worldwide.

Räikkönen was also involved in one of the most memorable and amusing incidents in Austin’s history during the 2017 Grand Prix. On the very last lap, in one of the so-called “horseshoe” corners in the final sector, Max Verstappen overtook Räikkönen to snatch third place. However, the Dutchman had done so by cutting the track, which led to a five-second penalty after the race ended. As a result, Räikkönen was reinstated to third place. The two drivers crossed paths in the cool-down area behind the podium, creating a funny and unforgettable exchange that still brings smiles to fans’ faces today.

Who has won the most in Austin?

Looking back at the statistics, the Circuit of the Americas has been dominated by two names: Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen. While fans still remember last year’s edition — a spectacular show of strength from Ferrari, with Charles Leclerc taking victory ahead of Carlos Sainz — Hamilton remains the most successful driver in Austin’s history, with an impressive five wins to his name. Verstappen follows with three victories, having established his dominance in recent seasons.

Lewis Hamilton also holds the record for the most pole positions at the track, with three. He famously won the very first edition of the United States Grand Prix in Austin back in 2012, marking the beginning of his special relationship with the circuit. On the team side, Mercedes stands as the most successful constructor at the venue, with five wins and six pole positions. For years, the American circuit was considered the Silver Arrows’ territory — a true “hunting ground” for the German team — until Max Verstappen began to assert his dominance after 2021, leading up to Charles Leclerc’s memorable win last season.

With its sweeping corners, passionate crowds, and unpredictable races, the Austin Grand Prix continues to be one of Formula 1’s standout events. And as Lewis Hamilton returns to one of his most successful circuits, the question remains: can the British champion once again turn the Circuit of the Americas into his home backyard and chase another unforgettable victory?
