A short teaser for the new Drive to Survive season confirmed the Netflix docuseries will be released on 24 February, just seven days before the first round of the 2023 championship, which takes place at the Bahrain International Circuit.
The most recent season will cover the 2022 Formula 1 campaign, in which Max Verstappen secured his second consecutive drivers’ championship, while Red Bull won the Constructors’ championship.
The new trailer shows Formula 1 chief executive officer Stefano Domenicali talking about the rules change which were introduced in the start of 2022, as the former Ferrari boss explained: “The drivers will love it because they are fighters, like in the Colosseum.”
A sixth season, scheduled for next year, has already been confirmed.
Drive to Survive has been hugely popular among fans and provided a massive boost to the series, especially in the United States.
Season four was its best performing yet, peaking at number one worldwide on Netflix covering the close title battle between Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen in 2021.

Season three was released in 2021 and hit a new peak for Drive to Survive’s popularity, going number one worldwide on Netflix and recording an audience understood to be around 20% up on season one.
Season four also peaked at number one worldwide on Netflix.
While Formula 1 drivers and team staff have shared words of appreciation for the Drive to Survive series, especially its contribution in bringing in more fans, some have raised concerns over their portrayal in the series.
Formula 1 chief executive officer Stefano Domenicali confirmed that discussions were planned to make sure that the use of creative licence is not taken too far so drivers would continue to get involved in the next Netflix projects.
