F1 Monaco GP, FP1 live
Good morning and welcome, dear FormulaPassion.it readers. We are live to bring you full coverage of the opening Free Practice session of the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix weekend. FP1 is scheduled to start at 13:30 local Italian time and will run until 14:30.
This marks the first truly “standard” Formula 1 practice session in quite some time. There was no racing action in April, while both May events, in Miami and Montreal, were held under the Sprint format, meaning teams and drivers had less traditional practice time available.
However, there is nothing ordinary about Monaco. The unique characteristics of the iconic Monte Carlo circuit make it unlike any other venue on the Formula 1 calendar. Winding through the narrow streets of the Principality, the track presents a challenge that drivers face nowhere else during the season.
For that reason, the focus during practice is often less about major setup changes and more about accumulating laps. Drivers typically spend as much time on track as possible, minimizing visits to the pits while continuously building confidence behind the wheel. Tyre degradation on Monaco’s smooth street surface is extremely low, allowing long runs without significant performance drop-off.
The key objective is simple: lap after lap, drivers work to familiarize themselves with every bump, barrier and corner of the tightest and most unforgiving circuit in Formula 1. Precision is everything around Monaco, where even the smallest mistake can end a session instantly.
Who will come out on top in this crucial first hour of running? Join us throughout the weekend and follow every moment of the 2026 Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix with our live minute-by-minute coverage, updates and analysis from all sessions.
