The first races of the 2023 Formula 1 championship have not met the expectations of the Scuderia Ferrari drivers, engineers, and fans. As they arrive at the first European leg, the team led by Frederic Vasseur expresses confidence in the level of preparation of the SF-23 car for the Monaco Grand Prix, which is scheduled to take place this weekend on the streets of Monte Carlo.
Monaco is one of those circuits that could suit the characteristics of the SF-23 well, given the fact that the Ferrari car is strong in traction and agile in low-speed corners. If the car confirms itself in these aspects, we could witness a good performance from the Italian side. Despite the delay in updates to the rear suspension, Ferrari brings a new high-downforce rear wing to Monaco.
Let’s see how this version differs from the specifications seen so far.
Here is the new high-downforce rear wing.
Scuderia Ferrari aims to approach the weekend in an attacking position and introduces a new rear wing to improve traction. The new specification for Monaco is supported by the central pillar, similar to the medium-low downforce wing that we have seen in previous races. The most evident difference lies in the mainplane, which this time has a longer chord and a more pronounced curvature (camber) to increase the pressure difference above and below the wing. Due to the reduced length of the straight and the DRS zone, the new specification features a significantly shorter movable flap. Nevertheless, this should ensure a good increase in speed once it is open. Additionally, there is also a Gurney flap to further increase the downforce generated by the new rear wing. The work of the technicians has also focused on the endplate area, with the upper part having a considerably wide junction to maximize the effectiveness of the rear wing.

This new specification should allow Ferrari to play with the mechanical setup in order to improve traction and cornering speed.
