It’s a tradition for drivers and teams to unveil special helmet or car liveries for particular occasions. In the case of Ferrari, it’s the Italian Grand Prix where they will showcase unique car liveries and driver suits to celebrate their Le Mans victory. Carlos Sainz also didn’t want to be left behind and has revealed the special livery of his helmet for the 2023 Italian Grand Prix at Monza.
Plenty of black and an old-style flavor
Through a Twitter video directly shared by Carlos Sainz, we can appreciate the new colors of the helmet worn by the driver of the SF-23 #55. Dominating the scene on the shell is the color black, which covers it almost entirely. Interrupting this monochrome is a yellow and red band running longitudinally across the center of the helmet. Above this decorative element, the iconic Ferrari emblem with the prancing horse is present. The word “Ferrari” is also included, rendered in the classic lettering of the Maranello Scuderia, the same used on the mobile flap of the rear wing.
On the side of the helmet, you can find Carlos Sainz’s race number, #55, in black against a white background. These are not perfectly defined and bear some typical smudges reminiscent of liveries from Formula 1’s golden years. Even the font of the number is old-school, harking back to those used in the ’70s on the Prancing Horse’s single-seaters.
Among the various details on the helmet, there are direct references to Sainz’s character, such as the red chili pepper placed just below the rear spoiler. There’s also a nod to his native Spain through the alternating red and yellow colors on the lower part of the helmet. Carlos Sainz also wanted to highlight his connection to Italy and Scuderia Ferrari with a small tricolor emblem next to his race number.
