A subdued Lewis Hamilton
Despite returning to victory twice in 2024—945 days after his last win—Lewis Hamilton’s season has not been particularly positive. In his internal battle with George Russell, the seven-time Formula 1 world champion came up short, trailing by 24 points in the Drivers’ Championship with one race to go and suffering a 5-18 defeat in qualifying, historically one of his strengths.
The Briton hasn’t hidden his struggles, even admitting to being “simply slow” and not knowing how to fix the situation. However, Mercedes’ Toto Wolff defended his driver, emphasizing that the W15’s development went in a direction contrary to Lewis Hamilton’s driving style, shifting some responsibility away from him for the recent results.
Eddie Jordan’s Provocation
Eccentric Eddie Jordan, speaking on the *Formula For Success* podcast, reflected on Lewis Hamilton’s recent interviews and issued a provocation: “If you don’t believe in yourself 100%, you’re in trouble. Anyone with even a sliver of doubt has voices in their head telling them things aren’t going well. At that point, you lose confidence in achieving a positive result. I heard Lewis say he wasn’t fast enough anymore. If I were at Ferrari, I’d say: ‘We don’t need Hamilton anymore; we’re looking for another path.’” – he believes.
Jordan isn’t convinced that Lewis Hamilton has the right motivation to continue and addressed the champion directly: “Lewis, I have a little message for you. If you’re listening, remember you have so many other things in life. You’ve got music, fashion, and many other interests. In the eyes of most people, you’re already the greatest driver of all time. A graceful exit is always the best option. And this is the right moment. Please, step away,” the Irishman stated, hinting at Lewis Hamilton’s retirement.
Just a few days ago, Ferrari reaffirmed that they had no doubts about signing the 39-year-old Briton, who will form the most successful pairing in Formula 1 history with the Scuderia.
