Space for glamour
The entire world of Formula 1, starting from the top of the category, has advertised the Miami weekend for months, focusing on the Florida race as the new, great, glamorous event of the sport – waiting to see what will happen in Las Vegas – exaggerating to the nth degree those characteristics that, in the roaring years, were typical of the Monaco Grand Prix.
Almost all drivers have chosen to create a special helmet for this Grand Prix and, in general, the first of the three American races of the 2023 Formula One season has been presented as the media event that cannot be missed.
Drivers’ criticism
In recent hours, however, the other side of the coin of this event, linked to the purely sporting aspect of the race, is emerging. Drivers, in fact, are realizing, against their will, that it is almost impossible to overtake at the Miami International Autodrome.
This is also because the DRS zones along the track around the Hard Rock Stadium have been shortened. The German website Auto Motor und Sport has highlighted in recent hours how there is widespread discontent among drivers for this. Many of them have pointed out that they were neither informed nor consulted about it.
Shortened DRS zones
In reality, however, the teams were informed weeks ago of this decision, as evidenced by the complaints of several drivers, including Lewis Hamilton, George Russell, and Carlos Sainz.

The same controversy arose last weekend in the race at the Baku City Circuit; even in that case, the areas in which the mobile wing could be activated were shortened, generating numerous train-like formations on the track. Another issue is added to this, which, according to the protagonists of the sport, adds insult to injury. Tonight, before the race, just before the American national anthem, a big ceremony will be held on the starting grid in which drivers will be individually presented.
Pre-race show not appreciated
A classic American-style show, which many of the direct interested parties do not appreciate: several drivers, in fact, would have complained that the spectacle, created for the fans, could disturb their concentration just before the start. The criticism leveled at F1 is clear and explicit: on the one hand, DRS zones have been shortened, and on the other one, attempts are made to provide entertainment with elements such as this ‘presentation,’ which have nothing to do with the sporting content of the event.
