F1 | Drive to Survive 9 is coming to Netflix, but it won’t be the final season
Despite recent rumours suggesting a possible ending, Drive to Survive will continue with a ninth season on Netflix — and it will not mark the conclusion of the popular Formula 1 docuseries.
While official confirmation is still pending, Netflix’s intention is to move forward with at least one more season. Launched in 2019, the hugely successful series was created to offer fans a behind-the-scenes look at the Formula 1 World Championship through the voices of its key figures — drivers, team principals and prominent personalities from the paddock.
Over time, Drive to Survive has evolved into a global phenomenon, captivating an ever-growing audience, particularly in the United States. The series played a major role in expanding Formula 1’s popularity across the American market, introducing fans to the sport’s new era, its drivers and its most charismatic characters. Throughout the years, Netflix helped turn figures such as Gunther Steiner, Daniel Ricciardo and even Christian Horner into central personalities within its storytelling universe.
Now in its eighth season — which explored the dramatic 2025 Formula 1 championship — the series is set to add another chapter. Cameras have already been spotted in the paddock capturing footage for what promises to be another compelling season, with filming having followed several drivers during the winter break.
But that is not all. Netflix may already have a long-term plan in place for the eventual conclusion of Drive to Survive. Ian Holmes, Formula 1’s director of media rights and broadcasting, spoke about the future of the series during an appearance on The Sports Agents podcast, revealing ambitions to reach at least ten seasons.
“I think it would be foolish not to think about what comes next. I don’t believe when we started this journey that we expected to reach an eighth season. Probably a ninth, and it would be nice to get to the magical tenth. But we are definitely thinking about it,” he said.
Holmes also hinted at possible changes to keep the format fresh. “There are some things we have discussed about how we might refresh the show, change certain approaches. The structure and the storytelling of Drive to Survive can evolve, if people want to keep watching it.”
For now, Formula 1 fans can look forward to at least one more season of exclusive behind-the-scenes drama, as Netflix continues to document the stories shaping the modern era of the sport.
