Does Lewis Hamilton see Oliver Bearman as a potential threat for his future at Ferrari? The young Haas driver has addressed the speculation directly, offering a clear and composed response to the growing discussion surrounding his long-term prospects with the Scuderia.
The seven-time world champion could, in theory, feel that Oliver Bearman might one day replace him in the near future. But does Hamilton truly consider the young British talent a threat to his Ferrari seat? The Haas driver has now clarified his position on the matter.
At present, the Prancing Horse arguably boasts one of the strongest driver line-ups on the Formula 1 grid. The 2025 season proved to be a very difficult one for Lewis Hamilton, who struggled to match Charles Leclerc in terms of outright performance. The demanding SF-25 did not put him in the ideal conditions to consistently fight at the front. However, the development work carried out on the SF-26 has allowed him to return to competing for podium finishes.
At Maranello, Lewis Hamilton’s requests have been addressed, and everything now appears to be moving in the right direction. Changes such as a new race engineer and other internal adjustments within the team have also delivered positive results. Still, with Oliver Bearman’s impressive performances, the question naturally arises: does Lewis Hamilton view him as a genuine threat?
Bearman: “I feel absolutely ready for podiums and wins”
“Of course I feel ready. I think if I didn’t feel ready to fight at the front, I shouldn’t even show up at the track. I feel absolutely ready for podiums and for victories. If I am here, it is only thanks to Ferrari, which trusted me and supported me from the very beginning. My biggest long-term dream is to wear a red suit and race for Ferrari. I would be lying if I said otherwise.”
The young driver has already demonstrated significant maturity since his debut with the Prancing Horse, when he was called up at the last minute to replace Carlos Sainz during the 2024 Jeddah race weekend. Since then, his development curve has been remarkable, with steady and consistent progress.
When asked about the possibility of eventually replacing Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari, the young “bear” responded with great respect and clarity: “But I don’t think he sees me as a threat. He is the most successful driver in the history of our sport, a role model for all of us. Right now, my focus is completely on Haas. I believe that this year, with the new regulations, we have the opportunity to achieve something really important.” – the Ferrari Driver Academy member pointed out.
Recently, Haas Team Principal Ayao Komatsu also spoke about the possibility of Oliver Bearman one day driving for Ferrari. Far from being concerned, he expressed pride in the situation: “It’s simply a conversation between us and Ferrari. We are all focused on getting the best performance out of the car and out of Ollie. That could mean losing him next year. Obviously, we hope not, but ultimately we have no control over the situation.”
