Ferrari playing catch-up
It certainly hasn’t been an ideal start to the season for Ferrari, which is trailing McLaren at a distance, with only one podium finish in the first six races of the 2025 season.
At Imola, the two Ferraris of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton will not feature any updates, so the weekend in Emilia-Romagna doesn’t appear to be the technical breakthrough moment for the SF-25.
Fred Vasseur plays it down
In recent days, there has been much talk about the possibility of a new rear suspension on the Ferrari, but even in the Imola paddock, lips remained sealed.
And in an interview last Wednesday in Maranello with Sky UK, team principal Frédéric Vasseur remained cautious: “We’re at a point where it’s difficult to bring major updates to the car, because after four years with the same regulations, the fight is more about the details. The biggest development will likely be what we’ll see in Spain, because there will be a clear rules shift with a completely new front wing. That could slightly change the face of the championship. We’re waiting for that moment.”
For Fred Vasseur, a certain reshuffling of the pecking order could occur: “It could be an immediate reset, even if not in terms of the championship. Whoever leads the championship before Spain will still be leading after. But if we look purely at performance, it could shake things up.” – the Ferrari team boss concluded.
The Spanish GP in Barcelona is scheduled for the weekend of June 1st.
