Carlos Sainz has also commented on the issue raised by Fernando Alonso regarding the alleged disparity in treatment between drivers based on their different nationalities.
The events in the Miami Grand Prix last weekend have further fueled the controversy over penalties, which has already caused considerable dissatisfaction among drivers in recent times.
The main spokesperson for this issue has been Fernando Alonso, who pointed out the disparity in treatment reserved for Spanish drivers, especially following the decision made by the race direction not to penalize Lewis Hamilton for his maneuver at the start of the sprint race.
Carlos Sainz, who was penalized ten seconds at the end of Sunday’s race due to contact with Oscar Piastri, also spoke on the matter, denying his compatriot’s theory: “I don’t have an opinion on nationalities. My opinion is about the consistency or inconsistency in the penalties.”
“I was surprised that Oscar Piastri did something similar to what Kevin Magnussen did and received many penalties, but he did not, and he did not give back the position. So I thought: ‘if we’re all going like this, then let’s go ahead.”
“For some reason, the stewards let us fight more than usual. Without giving me space, I don’t know exactly why, but I took note of it and did the same as others had done to me throughout the race. I started to be more aggressive.” – the Ferrari driver pointed out.

Despite the various discussions related to alleged biases concerning the nationalities of the drivers, it is clear that the standard of judgment applied by the stewards is not uniform from race to race, even for similar incidents.
This problem, which emerged years ago, continues to provoke discussion and controversy today, and perhaps should be clarified once and for all, also for the credibility of the FIA itself.
