In Formula 1, rumours can travel faster than the cars. Sometimes they turn out to be true, like the incredible case of Hamilton’s move to red, other times they amount to nothing. The latest development in recent days is the alleged contact between Ferrari and Christian Horner.
Over the past two years, the British team principal has not had an easy time, either on or off the track. In addition to personal matters that nearly saw him pushed out at the beginning of the 2024 season, Red Bull has lost the dominance it displayed in 2022 and 2023.
Even last season, after a formidable start, the team saw its certainties fall apart. Only one remained: the usual Max Verstappen who, even with a non-dominant car, secured a fourth consecutive title.
Then 2025 Formula 1 campaign began on a challenging note for almost everyone, including Red Bull. But perhaps the biggest negative surprise came from Ferrari. The red team, after a strong 2024 and with Charles Leclerc having scored more points after the summer break, got off to a slow start this season.
The biggest issue for the Italian team is qualifying, which often forces both drivers to chase from uncomfortable positions. A recent example is Imola, where neither driver qualified for Q3.
Monaco gave the team a confidence boost, but will that be enough to do well on such a different track as the Spanish one? Meanwhile, during the Imola/Monaco/Barcelona triple-header, a new rumour stirred up the paddock.
It is said that Ferrari got in touch with Horner to bring him into the Italian team. It would be another unexpected move after Hamilton’s arrival, but how much truth is there to it? The Briton responded to the speculation at a press conference in Spain.
“It’s always flattering to be linked with other teams,” said Christian Horner to the media ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix – “But my commitment is 100% with Red Bull, it always has been and will continue to be in the long term. In this environment, there are always speculations, people coming and going, but within the team they know exactly where things stand,” he concluded firmly.
