Australian-Italian racing driver Daniel Ricciardo, who is currently competing in Formula One for McLaren, was interviewed by German weekly sports magazine Sport Bild and discussed, among other topics, Ferrari Driver Academy member Mick Schumacher’s progress in Formula 1 after his first half of the season alongside Haas.
Daniel Ricciardo, who a few weeks ago admitted that at some point in the past he held some preliminary negotiations with Scuderia Ferrari regarding a possible move to the Maranello team, was adamant the son of seven-time Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher deserves a place on the current grid thanks to his driving abilities, talent and energetic work:
“I don’t want anyone to think Mick Schumacher is in Formula 1 just because of his name. Everything I see from him shows me that he has earned his place here with us. He works so hard and I’m impressed with his journey. I met Mick Schumacher back in 2016 at a charity football match. I immediately had the feeling that I just wanted to be nice to him. He should feel my deep respect, his father is such a legend.” – McLaren driver Daniel Ricciardo said, as reported by the German media.
