Formula 1 is running at Silverstone, but only for scenic purposes: the highly anticipated Brad Pitt movie is in the middle of filming. After production was halted last summer due to the strikes in Hollywood involving writers and actors, the crew of the film directed by Joseph Kosinski is back on set.
The Race published an interesting and curious photo of the film, directly from the Silverstone circuit: an F1 car has just crashed. At first glance, it looks like an accident, recreated, of course, for fiction: there doesn’t appear to be anyone in the cockpit.
The noted sports magazine explained that the crash was executed by remote control, to simulate a real racing incident.
As we previously reported, filming for the movie “Apex” (this is the provisional title) will continue throughout the 2024 Formula 1 season. Therefore, we will often see Kosinski’s crew and the actors around the paddock, interacting with the drivers and various teams.
The plot of the film is still sparse, but according to initial details, it should follow the story of a former F1 driver who returns to the track to mentor a young talent. The cast also includes Damson Idris, Javier Bardem (as the team owner who hires Brad Pitt’s character), Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, and Sarah Niles.
The film is already considered one of the most expensive ever made. The budget has exceeded 300 million dollars. “Apex” will first be released in theaters, then will be available on the Apple TV+ streaming platform.
