Flavio Briatore addresses rumors about joining Ferrari
Could Flavio Briatore potentially make a surprising move to Ferrari, given the current challenges faced by the Maranello-based team? The Italian businessman gave a clear answer regarding the rumors.
The former executive advisor of Alpine and well-known Italian entrepreneur, Flavio Briatore, recently commented on a possible future connection with Ferrari and even offered his own prediction about the Scuderia di Maranello. But is there any chance of seeing the former arch-rival dressed in red?
Ferrari fans may not welcome Briatore with open arms. He was the orchestrator behind the infamous Crashgate scandal in 2008, which robbed Felipe Massa of the opportunity to win his first world championship with Ferrari. Flavio Briatore and Renault allegedly manipulated the Singapore Grand Prix to secure a win for Fernando Alonso, leaving Ferrari and Felipe Massa to bear the biggest consequences. Initially, after the scandal came to light, The Italian manager was banned from Formula 1 for life, although he was later pardoned and now works with Alpine.
Briatore’s response is a clear…
“Me at Ferrari? I’m here in London with my team, and I already have my own problems. I’ve only ever been close to Ferrari from the garage. Nobody has ever asked me to join Ferrari. But I know that when I was at Benetton, Ferrari had to take away 12-13 people to win, starting with Michael Schumacher. Luca di Montezemolo was and still is a great manager with extraordinary leadership, but even he had to wait five years to achieve victory—it’s never simple.”
So Briatore’s answer regarding a potential future with Ferrari is a firm no, especially since his arrival in Maranello would likely be unwelcome by the top management of the Scuderia. The Italian entrepreneur also believes that the team is in capable hands with Frederic Vasseur, who he thinks will turn around the fortunes of a currently underperforming squad.
“Sooner or later, he will solve the problems. Fred Vasseur is a very capable person, but today Formula 1 is incredibly complex, with seven cars within two-tenths. This year, the only really competitive team is McLaren. Next year, everything will change, and we will also fight for podiums. You’ll see, with the new cars, Hamilton will be back in the battle for victories too; he is always a great driver.”
These are the words of Flavio Briatore during the Italian TV show La Politica nel Pallone. The former Alpine executive advisor also expressed his great respect for Lewis Hamilton, who is currently facing a challenging period at Ferrari. As the Italian entrepreneur highlighted, everything will change in 2026, and every team, including Ferrari, will have new opportunities, leaving no room for mistakes.
