Will Leclerc leave Ferrari in 2027? The Monegasque has held talks with three teams
Rumors are circulating in the F1 paddock that Charles Leclerc might say goodbye to Ferrari in 2027. The Monegasque driver has reportedly already held discussions with three different teams, keeping his options open in case he decides to part ways with Maranello.
The clock is ticking. Despite Charles Leclerc’s repeated statements expressing his love for Ferrari, his patience is starting to wear thin. The team has never given him the opportunity to fight for a World Championship. Seven years have passed since his debut in the SF-90, with which he won two races and claimed seven pole positions. The talented driver from Monaco is in high demand across the grid, as even Max Verstappen’s manager has acknowledged. In the meantime, Charles Leclerc is beginning to explore his options. Here’s a closer look at the three teams he has reportedly contacted.
Aston Martin, McLaren, and Mercedes: Leclerc’s three options
Over the summer, photos emerged showing Charles Leclerc and his manager Nicholas Todt with a member of Lawrence Stroll’s Aston Martin team. These images immediately raised questions among Ferrari fans. Leclerc is assessing alternatives in case the 2026 season proves disappointing for Ferrari. Making any decision before seeing the impact of the regulation changes would be too risky. According to Paolo Ciccarone from RMC Motori, Aston Martin is not the only option under consideration.
Nicholas Todt reportedly met on Sunday morning in Monza with two key figures from McLaren’s management: Team Principal Andrea Stella and CEO Alessandro Alunni Bravi. The manager, son of Jean Todt, wanted to understand the contract situations of other drivers and what short-term deals could be arranged if needed. Additionally, Charles Leclerc is said to have met with Toto Wolff in Capri, where Max Verstappen also made a visit.
Charles Leclerc’s current contract with Ferrari runs until 2029, but in Formula 1, anything can happen. If the Scuderia wants to ensure their star driver stays, they must deliver a car capable of fighting for the championship. There is no other solution.
