Charles Leclerc’s long-awaited breakthrough at Silverstone
Following a Sprint race that fell well short of his expectations, Charles Leclerc hinted that he had found something capable of turning his weekend around. That prediction proved to be spot on.
The Ferrari driver qualified on the front row in second place before producing a superb launch at the start of the British Grand Prix, taking the lead into the opening corner and never looking back. While Andrea Kimi Antonelli‘s late technical problems undoubtedly removed what could have become a fierce challenge on fresher tyres, Charles Leclerc’s pace and consistency throughout the race fully deserved the victory.
The closing laps, however, were anything but straightforward. A late Safety Car created uncertainty over whether the race would restart for one final lap. The situation frustrated Charles Leclerc so much that Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur came over the radio with a simple instruction:
“Charles, calm down!”

Bryan Bozzi: “And that’s P1. Tough times don’t last forever. Only the strong survive.”
Charles Leclerc: “Yes! Come on! Finally! This one feels especially good, even though I would have preferred a slightly more normal finish. But all the hard work has paid off. And, just like you said, tough times don’t last forever. Only the strong survive! Once again, fantastic job everyone, and thank you, thank you all. Thanks to Andrea, thanks to Johannes. The feeling was… it was better today as well, so… thank you, thank you, thank you.”
Bryan Bozzi: “Exactly, Charles. That was a really beautiful message. Thank you. And remember to stop at the P1 board in the pit lane!”
Charles Leclerc: “For goodness’ sake, it’s not like we finish P1 that often. Don’t worry, I won’t miss it!”
Charles Leclerc reflects on an emotional Ferrari victory
Speaking after climbing out of the car, Charles Leclerc admitted that the ending was not quite how he had imagined it, but the victory made up for the frustrations of the previous few race weekends.
“It’s incredible. Unfortunately, the ending wasn’t the one I had dreamed of. But I’ve won after some particularly difficult weekends and after all the work we’ve put in to rediscover the feeling with the car. I found something between the Sprint and Qualifying, and today I had to confirm it. The feeling is back where it should be.”
“I’m incredibly happy. This weekend I managed to put everything together, and I hope we can keep going like this. Thanks to the team for all the work they’ve done.”
