Oliver Bearman will make his Formula 1 debut next year with Haas, replacing Nico Hulkenberg (who will drive for Sauber, soon to be Audi). Charles Leclerc, who also entered the top category of motorsport through the Ferrari Driver Academy, has high expectations for the young British colleague.
“I think he’s an incredibly talented driver,” he told the media. Knowing very well the high expectations that come with being in Formula 1, the Monegasque has some ‘brotherly’ advice for Oliver Bearman.
“What you have to do in your first year in Formula 1 is very specific to each driver. It also depends a lot on the preparation you’ve had before.” – he pointed out.
Charles Leclerc believes that Ollie is “very well prepared, and he showed it in Jeddah when he jumped in the car and was really very strong.” Remember that at the Jeddah circuit in Saudi Arabia, Oliver Bearman was called to replace the unavailable Carlos Sainz (who had undergone appendicitis surgery) and finished the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in seventh position.
“A typical piece of advice I would give him is not to put too much pressure on himself. He’s still very young. The speed? He has it. He has shown it many times.” – the Monegasque driver added.
Oliver Bearman is struggling in Formula 2 with an underperforming car. Yet, despite the problems, he managed to win his first race of the year in Austria.
“He’s not having an easy season in F2, but he’s incredibly fast. I have no doubt he will be in Formula 1 as well,” Charles Leclerc continued – “He just needs to take his time, make mistakes to learn to become a better driver. He shouldn’t put too much pressure on himself because in these cases, sometimes you can deliver very little despite your great potential.” – the Ferrari driver concluded.
