Charles Leclerc: “We may lack a bit of straight-line speed, but we have a competitive car”

Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver took part in the Friday press conference ahead of the first free practice session for the 2022 Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Charles was asked about Ferrari’s prospects for the Baku weekend given the track characteristics and layout and also looked back on the events from the Monaco Grand Prix, confirming the Maranello team has identified the reasons for the mistakes which led to the Monegasque driver finishing outside the podium in Monte Carlo. Here are some of Charles’ statements from the press conference:

Charles Leclerc on Ferrari’s pace this weekend in Azerbaijan:
“Here in Baku most likely everyone will use low loads so maybe we will lack a bit of straight-line speed on this track compared to Red Bull. We have to see where we go with the setup, we should be better in the slow section. We will have to understand our weaknesses, we have a more competitive car than last year and I hope to keep first place if we take pole on Saturday!”

About the Monaco Grand Prix:
“After each race we analyze things, in Monte Carlo we made some mistakes and we studied them: I won’t go into detail, but we have found the reasons why we made these mistakes. We got the answers we were looking for and I am confident that they will not be repeated. If we do everything perfectly, we should look good here in Baku.”
