Charles Leclerc has urged Ferrari to make a clear step forward in the upcoming races if it wants to establish itself as a consistent front-runner in the 2025 Formula 1 season.
The Maranello-based team has struggled to deliver a winning performance so far this year and has yet to claim victory in a Grand Prix, despite showing glimpses of promise. Charles Leclerc has secured three podium finishes, including consecutive top-three results in Monaco and Spain, but the team remains unable to mount a serious challenge against McLaren or Red Bull, both of whom are currently setting the pace at the front of the field.
After finishing on the podium again in Barcelona, Charles Leclerc reflected on the contrasting feelings between his recent third-place result in Spain and the one achieved a week earlier in Monaco. He explained that while he was pleased with the outcome in both events, the emotional context behind them differed significantly.
According to comments he shared with the media, including ScuderiaFans.com, Charles Leclerc noted that in Monaco the disappointment had been greater, as Ferrari had demonstrated strong pace across all three practice sessions, only to fall short in qualifying and the race. In contrast, the Spanish Grand Prix had not started positively, with the team struggling in FP1, FP2, FP3, and even in qualifying.
Charles Leclerc stated that he had deliberately compromised his qualifying setup in Barcelona to prioritise race performance—a decision that ultimately paid off. The Monegasque driver acknowledged that a touch of good fortune had also played a role in delivering the podium result, but the strategy seemed to have been effective.
Despite currently sitting second in the constructors’ standings, Ferrari faces mounting pressure. The gap to championship leaders McLaren continues to widen, while Red Bull and Mercedes remain within striking distance, ready to capitalise on any further slip-ups from the Scuderia.
Charles Leclerc made it clear that while the podium in Spain was a welcome surprise given the circumstances, he was not satisfied with Ferrari’s overall competitiveness. He emphasized the importance of making meaningful progress soon, suggesting that the team cannot afford to rely on isolated strong weekends if it wants to remain a serious contender in the title fight.
