Charles Leclerc came under investigation after a duel with Alex Albon: at the end of the Imola GP, the stewards’ decision on a possible penalty arrives.
One of the protagonists of the Imola GP was Charles Leclerc who, after a great comeback, came under investigation for a duel with Alex Albon: at the end of the race, the stewards’ decision on a possible penalty for the Ferrari driver arrived.
The two battled for fourth place with just a few laps to go. The Monegasque Ferrari driver, under attack after the Safety Car restart, slightly forced the Williams driver off track. Upon rejoining, Albon then lost position to Lewis Hamilton as well, immediately complaining over the radio to his pit wall.
“It wasn’t fair,” said the former Red Bull driver, referring to Charles Leclerc’s move that relegated him to sixth place. The stewards thus decided to open an investigation into the incident, with Charles Leclerc at risk of receiving a penalty.
The stewards’ decision on Charles Leclerc
After being informed of the investigation, Charles Leclerc was instructed to give the position back to Alex Albon. This allowed Ferrari to avoid a penalty that would have soured an otherwise very positive race after Saturday’s difficulties.
The move paid off, as shortly after the end of the race, the FIA announced that the investigation involving Charles Leclerc and Alex Albon could be closed without further consequences. “No further action” was the message shown on the screens, confirming no penalty for the Ferrari driver.
The Maranello team therefore leaves the Imola GP with a fourth and a sixth place, improving the mood in the garage after the Q2 elimination, which had drawn heavy criticism towards Fred Vasseur’s team. The Circus now moves on to Monaco, Charles Leclerc’s home race, where the number 16 is eager to do well.
