Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari began its Saturday in Miami in the worst possible way, and now it is also under investigation, putting him at risk of a penalty. For the Monegasque, when it rains, it pours. During the lap to take his place on the grid, he crashed into the wall and damaged his SF-25 to such an extent that he could not participate in the Sprint race.
The Monegasque, already struggling on Friday, had hoped the Sprint would offer a chance to begin turning his weekend around. But the weather conditions made everything much more complicated. Ferrari’s decision to send him out remains difficult to explain — particularly why he was pushing so hard.
Charles Leclerc under investigation after crash: is he at risk of a penalty?
In extremely wet conditions (heavy rain in Miami), Ferrari fitted intermediate tyres. The choice, already questionable, became even more puzzling considering how hard Charles Leclerc was pushing just to reach his grid slot for the Sprint Race.
To make matters worse, Charles Leclerc is now also under investigation by the FIA. “Unsafe condition” is the term used in the FIA note explaining the reason for the investigation involving Ferrari’s number 16. After the Sprint, he will have to appear before the stewards to explain what happened.
If the unsafe conditions are confirmed, it’s possible that the Monegasque could receive a penalty — further worsening a weekend that has so far been anything but smooth. We await further updates from Miami, but for now, Charles Leclerc’s situation looks even gloomier than the Miami skies.
