Even Charles Leclerc in the eye of the storm
The June 12 article in Corriere della Sera by Daniele Sparisci and Giorgio Terruzzi described Charles Leclerc as having “lost faith” in Ferrari. The article specified that the Monegasque driver, despite repeated declarations of love in interviews, no longer had full confidence in the project and was even considering “looking around without ruling out a move to another team.” It highlighted Toto Wolff’s respect for him, suggesting a possible move to Mercedes, and the appeal of Aston Martin’s wealthy project.
The Ferrari driver’s denial
Arriving in Montreal, Charles Leclerc was asked about these rumors and appeared genuinely surprised by the Milanese newspaper’s report: “I’m very surprised. I mean, I have no idea where it comes from. I’d just prefer to ignore it. I never said anything like that in recent races, in fact, I keep repeating how much I love the team and how much I want to bring Ferrari back to the top. So I’m surprised.”
Charles Leclerc also closed ranks around Frederic Vasseur: “We have a vision shared among the three of us — Fred, Lewis, and me — to try to get back to winning. This is our plan and I think we should stick to it. We are already putting a lot of pressure on ourselves. Then, of course, there are these rumors, which are things you don’t want to hear. But it’s normal to have pressure when you work for Ferrari; second place is never enough, and we are all aware of that.” – he pointed out.
The Monegasque added: “External pressure is not affecting us. We want to win and we are focusing all our thoughts on this. We have to forget everything that’s said around the team. But over the years I’ve gotten used to it. After all, that’s how it works at Ferrari and it always has been. So you have to deal with it, but I don’t think these rumors can influence us,” Charles Leclerc concluded.
