Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc was in Abu Dhabi on Monday and had the great opportunity of getting behind the wheel of Michael Schumacher’s legendary Ferrari F2002 challenger for a short run at the Yas Marina Circuit, as Formula 1 awakens from its winter slumber.
The race track which hosted the final round of the 2022 Formula One season, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, was on this occasion the venue for Charles Leclerc to experience the thrill of driving the amazing F2002, the single-seater with which Michael Schumacher won the 2022 F1 championship in a dominant manner, by ending each Grand Prix on the podium, with Malaysia the only third place finish in that impressive run of form.
Michael Schumacher won his fifth Formula 1 World Championship in 2022 with six races until the end of the campaign, while the Maranello team easily secured the Constructors’ title in a season in which the Ferrari era of dominance reached new heights.
And more than two decades later, Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc got the chance to drive the iconic F1 car and experience that legendary V10 roaring as he powered down the main straight in Abu Dhabi.
Also present for the occasion was Jean Todt, the former FIA president and ex-Ferrari team principal, who was leading the Italian side in 2002 and was one of the key figures during the unseen dominance, with Scuderia Ferrari winning six Constructors’ titles in a row between 1999 and 2004, with Michael Schumacher also winning five Drivers’ titles in succession from 2000-04.

Next week (on February 14), Scuderia Ferrari will launch their 2023 Formula 1 challenger, a single-seater that is reportedly “at least one second faster” than the previous car, as the Maranello team looks to challenge Red Bull and Mercedes for the 2023 F1 titles.
