The arrival in Maranello of a Frenchman has brought back many memories for fans, but also of journalists, recalling what happened many years ago with the arrival of Jean Todt. The hope of all the Ferrari fans is that the return of a Frenchman at the helm of the Maranello team will correspond to a return to victory for Ferrari. This is the mission that Frederic Vasseur has to focus on: bringing a world title back to Maranello. The new head of the Ferrari Racing Division did not hide his ambitions, also motivated by a line-up of drivers he forcibly believes in (click here for more details).
The world of Formula 1 runs fast, there is little time – and this is why Fred Vasseur talked about what he can offer in the immediate and long term – to act and the request for results is almost immediate. For months now, there has often been talk of 2026, very far away for an ordinary person, not for those who work in Formula 1. “In Formula 1 you need to focus on the coming week or the next race, if we consider the short term, but you also have to focus on the medium and long term which for us means the next generation of cars. This morning [Wednesday 25] we had a meeting on the 2026 regulations and this is also a challenge from my job”. In Ferrari, as well as in all the other teams, not only are the projects for 2023 underway, but also those for 2026, especially regarding the Power Units, as explained by Paolo D’Alessandro and Piergiuseppe Donadoni for formu1a.uno.
“It’s difficult but it’s like that for everyone and you can’t sacrifice one of the two, focusing exclusively on 2023. Also because if you want to be competitive in 2026, you have to be competitive in 2023, 2024 and 2025. It’s important to get results for a positive atmosphere and work with valuable people. It’s a bit of a schizophrenic approach but we have to push in both directions and you have to do it within the budget cap. We and the other teams will have to make choices but I think in the short term the mentality of getting results quickly is very important for motivation.”
The approach of the French team principal is quite clear: achieving results to motivate the team, thus increasing confidence and internal motivation to keep pushing and improving in the medium to long term. And no project, whether immediate or in the future, can be set aside, despite varying limits of testing hours or budget caps.

Fred Vasseur: “Jean Todt? He was among the first to write to me, but you can’t compare it to the 90s.”
For the media it was inevitable to ask the new Ferrari Team Principal for an opinion regarding the latest French team principal, Jean Todt. The two spoke after his appointment as Ferrari boss and indeed, Fred Vasseur revealed that the former FIA President was also among the first to write to him via WhatsApp. However, according to the new head of the Ferrari Racing Division, it is difficult to compare the two situations. “You can’t make comparisons with the past, and it would be a mistake for me to focus on that.”
