The qualifying session for the 2024 Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix has just concluded, with Lando Norris confirming what we saw at the Zandvoort circuit one week ago and positioning himself as the favorite for tomorrow’s race at the 5.793-kilometre Autodromo Nazionale Monza. Charles Leclerc finished the session in fourth place, putting Ferrari in a position to fight for a podium spot in its home race. The Monegasque driver shared his thoughts on what happened during an interview with Sky Sport F1. Below are some of his most important statements.
Charles Leclerc comments on the Italian Grand Prix qualifying
The Ferrari driver commented on the Monza qualifying session, expressing his concerns about his car’s behavior, which has been struggling with understeer issues: “I don’t know if it’s the usual understeer problem, but unfortunately, we’ve had it since FP1 and haven’t been able to fully resolve it on our side of the garage.” – he pointed out.
About his Marranello teammate Carlos Sainz: “Carlos seemed to be doing better, and we made up some ground, but not enough in the corners.” – he added.
Charles Leclerc then reflected on McLaren’s competitiveness and was asked if Ferrari will be able to march the pace of the MCL38 cars: “We’ll have to see tomorrow how strong McLaren really is; they were down on engine power during the practice sessions. Basically, we’re close in race pace.”
Finally, the Monegasque driver showed confidence heading into tomorrow’s race: “I hope that with the support of the fans and the new package, we’ll have a good race. We’ll need to keep them within our DRS range and then try to overtake them on track.” – Charles Leclerc concluded.
