Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc opened up about the pit lane incident involving Lando Norris during Friday’s second practice session (FP2) at the Singapore Grand Prix, providing insight into the unusual circumstances that led to the clash.
“I’ve analysed it. My camera was on my face so I couldn’t see to double check with my mechanic and speaking with him it was a bit of confusion with the two McLarens going out,” Charles Leclerc said. The Ferrari driver explained that the timing of the two McLarens leaving the pit lane created a misunderstanding.
“It looked like they were going out at the same time, so he thought they would go out slower, so I didn’t have a message to stop,” he added. The 27-year-old driver emphasized that in such situations, drivers rely heavily on their team for guidance, and sometimes, small miscommunications can have consequences.
He further highlighted the chaotic nature of FP2 in Singapore: “It was also in a tricky moment because with all the red flags, everyone was in a rush to get out to do some laps. It’s a combination of things. It’s not something you want but these things happen.”
The incident illustrates the challenges of navigating pit lane under high-pressure conditions, especially in street circuits like Marina Bay, where timing and coordination are crucial. Despite the setback, Charles Leclerc remained pragmatic, noting that such situations, while frustrating, are part of the unpredictability of Formula 1.
FP2 in Singapore was marked by multiple red flags and disrupted running, which added pressure on teams and drivers to maximize their limited track time. Charles Leclerc’s reflections underline how even small miscommunications can create incidents in the controlled chaos of a busy Grand Prix weekend.
