Charles Leclerc heading to Shanghai
After the Japanese Grand Prix at the Suzuka circuit, there has been much discussion about Scuderia Ferrari. Observers were divided between those who appreciated the gap to Red Bull being halved over six months and those who noted that the Maranello cannot celebrate a third and fourth place as a victory.
In Shanghai, unlike Suzuka, there are no recent comparisons (China has not hosted a race since 2019), but it is possible that the Scuderia will be closer to the RB20. Charles Leclerc is convinced of this, expressing cautious optimism at the press conference before the Grand Prix, especially for Sunday.
Charles Leclerc’s comments ahead of the Chinese Grand Prix
“I believe that the level of confidence is quite stable since the beginning of the season. On paper, I think this is a track where we might be a bit stronger compared to Suzuka. I think we are quite strong this year, but I still believe that Red Bull will have the upper hand this weekend; we need to focus on ourselves because a little change can move you from fourth to eighth place on the grid, which I experienced myself two weeks ago. Therefore, it will be very important, especially on a Sprint weekend, where we have two qualifying sessions, to extract the maximum from the car in both qualifying sessions and then in the race.” – the Monegasque driver pointed out.
With the Chinese Grand Prix absent from the Formula 1 calendar since 2019, this weekend will be Charles Leclerc’s third visit to the Shanghai International Circuit:
“I believe we will be closer to Red Bull in the race compared to Suzuka, but we’ll see. I’ve only raced here twice, but it has always been a very interesting track. It’s a beautiful circuit, where many different lines are possible, especially in turns 1, 2, and 3. There are very different ways of taking those corners which makes it exciting for us. Having only FP1 before qualifying, we will need to find the best setup as quickly as possible. But even here, it’s an exciting challenge, and adapting quickly will be very important.” – Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver concluded.
