The Lewis Hamilton – Scuderia Ferrari scenario
In Monte-Carlo, especially today, nothing else has been talked about. It’s almost as if the track has already provided its verdicts for 2023 Formula One season well in advance, and the topic of discussion is only the possibility of Lewis Hamilton joining the Maranello team starting with the next F1 campaign. It is certainly a fascinating drivers’ market scenario but must contend with the feasibility of the operation.
Assuming that the Daily Mail’s rumor is true, many questions arise: Would Ferrari be wise to pay tens of millions for a driver who will turn 39 next year, just before the rule changes regarding power units? Would it be the right choice for Lewis Hamilton to leave a team that has allowed him to win six titles? And even if it were the right move for both, who should the Ferrari sacrifice at the altar of the British driver? If Charles Leclerc were to leave, would the Monegasque go to Mercedes?
Charles Leclerc’s comments
As known, the contracts of #16 (Charles Leclerc) and his Maranello teammate Carlos Sainz expire at the end of the 2024 Formula 1 championship. Regarding a potential arrival of Lewis Hamilton in red, Charles Leclerc himself is not worried at all: “I’m not concerned at all. If there was something, Fred (Vasseur) would have let me know, I have no doubt,” he said in an interview with French newspaper L’Equipe. “A seat swap between me and Lewis? I have no intention of talking about it; I don’t want to give headlines to the press.”
Lewis Hamilton – Charles Leclerc, an impossible pair?
A potential coexistence between Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc would certainly attract attention and have explosive potential (in every sense). A pairing between the Briton and the Monegasque seems impossible because the #16’s thirst for success would not align well with the #44’s desire to achieve an eighth title. However, Charles Leclerc has left the door open: “We will see what happens in the future. But I don’t feel like commenting because otherwise you’ll make a headline out of it. I’m getting to know the press (laughs); I’m starting to get to know the press.” – the Monegasque said.

When asked about a possible swap of seats between Lewis Hamilton and himself, Charles Leclerc laughed: “I’m not going to come into this field where you’re looking for headlines. I have absolutely no doubt that if there was anything, Fred (Vasseur) would have told me.” – the Ferrari man explained, ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix.
