Charles Leclerc has revealed how the birth of his first child, daughter Bianca, helped him put the recent Ferrari controversy involving Lewis Hamilton into perspective. After an emotionally intense week that began with tensions between the two team-mates following the Mexican Grand Prix, the Monegasque driver explained that becoming a father had temporarily made everything happening in Formula 1 seem far less important.
The Ferrari driver has experienced a whirlwind of emotions over the past seven days. Following the Mexican Grand Prix, a controversy erupted when Lewis Hamilton accused Charles Leclerc of being too aggressive towards him during their on-track battle. However, the Monegasque had little opportunity to respond immediately, having already boarded a flight home because his wife was about to give birth.
On 3 November, Charles Leclerc and his wife welcomed their daughter Bianca, with the family announcing the happy news on social media. The arrival of their first child represented a particularly special moment for the Ferrari driver, temporarily taking his attention away from the growing tensions with Lewis Hamilton following the Mexico City Grand Prix.
Charles Leclerc reveals how daughter Bianca changed his priorities
Charles Leclerc missed the Brazilian Grand Prix media day to spend time with his family and returned to his Ferrari duties in time for Friday’s on-track programme. Dino Beganovic took his place during FP1, allowing the new father additional time at home before returning to the cockpit for the second practice session.
Nevertheless, the disagreement with Lewis Hamilton inevitably resurfaced during subsequent interviews. Each time the subject was raised, Charles Leclerc responded with a broad smile, making it clear that the events of the previous few days had completely changed his perspective.
“It was probably the best week of my life. Obviously, there’s private life and professional life; when I’m at home, I don’t think about the track, and over the past few days I’ve devoted myself entirely to my family,” the Monegasque told the media, as reported by Adam Cooper.
“When things like this happen, you forget about everything else. With my daughter in my arms, I wasn’t thinking about anything else. Then, on Thursday evening, I had to speak with Fred and Lewis, but before that, they were special days. They put everything into perspective.”
Ferrari talks with Lewis Hamilton follow a special week for Charles Leclerc
Despite the happiness surrounding Bianca’s arrival, Charles Leclerc still had to address the professional situation awaiting him at Ferrari. The conversation with team principal Fred Vasseur and Lewis Hamilton on Thursday evening brought him back to the disagreement that had emerged following the Mexican Grand Prix.
The meeting came after renewed discussions about how Ferrari should manage competition between its two drivers, with the team seeking to prevent further controversy from affecting its results.
For Charles Leclerc, however, the birth of his daughter had provided a powerful reminder of the distinction between his personal life and professional responsibilities. While the disagreement at Ferrari still needed to be addressed, the time spent with his family had allowed him to approach it from a very different perspective.
His comments underline just how meaningful the arrival of Bianca has been. After a week dominated by both a major personal milestone and the fallout from Ferrari’s latest internal controversy, Charles Leclerc returns his attention to Formula 1 with a new sense of perspective and priorities extending far beyond the racetrack.
