The fourth place brought home by Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc in Barcelona has a very important value in the recovery path of Ferrari’s performance . The Catalan circuit has always been considered an important and demanding test for all Formula 1 cars, as the track is capable of expressing the real potential of the car thanks to its mix of slow and fast corners and the long main straight.
Unlike in recent years, Ferrari has been able to stand out openly in the midst of the competition from the center of the group, finishing immediately behind Mercedes and Red Bull and racing with a slight hope – albeit only for the first stint of the race – of being able to fight for the podium against the Mercedes of Valtteri Bottas. A respectable result if you look at the Cavallino’s recent past, but which still underlines the hard work which needs to be done to close the gap to the two top teams.
Chrles Leclerc analyzed the events which took place at Montmeló, as Charles is also focusing now on a special race for him, his home Grand Prix in Monaco: “Looking back on last Sunday’s race, I must admit that in the third sector we were extraordinarily strong, which gives me good hope in terms of Monte Carlo. I would say that, compared to the past, I am personally improving my race pace and tire management. Two years ago, with the SF90, I got some great pole positions, but I didn’t confirm in the race. Last year I improved in this aspect and now I feel good, although I still have a lot to learn, but I am very satisfied”. – Charles Leclerc concluded.
