In 2022, Scuderia Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc did not win the Formula 1 world title which he had hoped to at least fight for, especially after the first three races of the year, in which the Monegasque scored two race victories and a second place finish.
Despite the difficulties encountered as the season progressed, the year was nonetheless not short of emotions for the Monegasque driver, who ended the season with three victories to his name. The inaugural race in Bahrain saw Charles Leclerc climb on the top step of the podium, ahead of his teammate following the double retirement of the two Red Bull cars, marking an amazing start of the championship for the Maranello team. One month later, the easiest victory of 2022 arrived in Australia, creating what seemed like an important gap to Max Verstappen, who was then forced to retire again. Finally, in Austria the Monegasque took his last win of the season after overtaking his rival for the title three times on the track, before defending himself from the Dutchman in the final stages of the race due to a technical problem.
Looking back on the 2022 Formula One season, Charles Leclerc was asked to point out which was the most beautiful victory for him: “It is always very difficult to choose a specific race since each one has unique characteristics that remain in your memory. This year I’m probably undecided between Bahrain and Austria. The Austrian GP was very special as we came from some pretty difficult races and getting back in front of everyone was nice, but Bahrain was probably the best, because the one-two with Carlos was fantastic after two years of not experiencing those feelings” – the Monegasque driver explained.
In fact, Charles Leclerc’s last victory before his triumph at the Bahrain International Circuit dates back to the 2019 Italian Grand Prix, just seven days after his first success in Formula 1 at the Circuit of Spa-Francorchamps. In between, the Monegasque came close to winning the same year in Singapore and in 2021 in Monaco, when he was forced to retire even before the start due to the consequences of the damage sustained in the accident in qualifying after having set the fastest lap of the race and took pole position.
