Charles Leclerc expressed confidence despite the crash he was involved in during FP1 at the Canadian GP.
The crash involving Charles Leclerc during FP1 of the Canadian GP made Ferrari’s Friday more complicated than expected. The Maranello team, amid a highly tense atmosphere, needs as much data as possible to go on track with a competitive and, above all, predictable car.
In this context, having effectively lost two sessions means Ferrari will need to make the most of the sixty minutes available in FP3 as they prepare for qualifying. A qualifying session that, according to Lewis Hamilton, will be far from easy for the Italian team. The Briton mentioned reaching Q3 as the goal that must be achieved at all costs during Saturday in Montreal.
However, if achieved, that result could not be considered truly positive given the early impressions from the first free practice session. The Ferrari SF-25 car appeared comfortable in FP1 but then struggled as McLaren and Mercedes made noticeable gains in the Canadian afternoon.
Charles Leclerc confident despite the crash
Despite the setback, Charles Leclerc, after reviewing the incident he was involved in, still expressed confidence heading into the rest of the weekend. “In the end, it was a lock-up with major consequences. I want to apologise to the team because we couldn’t run for the rest of Friday. At the same time, the feeling I had in the car was positive. I don’t believe what happened in FP1 will impact our weekend too much,” said the Monegasque driver at the end of the first day of track action at the 4.361-kilometre Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal.
