An honest admission from the Ferrari driver at the end of qualifying.
When will it be Ferrari’s time?
Heading into Q3 in Miami, there was significant uncertainty about who would take pole position—something that had not really been the case in the first three rounds of the season. In the end, it was Mercedes’ Andrea Kimi Antonelli who came out on top, ahead of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, and McLaren’s Lando Norris. Four different cars in the top four positions.
Leclerc’s slightly dejected expression at the end of the session led many Ferrari fans to ask the same question: when will Ferrari finally put everyone in order at the front?
Leclerc does not hide his frustration
Speaking to F1TV, Charles Leclerc showed clear disappointment at seeing other teams making big steps forward, while Ferrari continues to sit among the top three or four teams without ever managing to find that final edge to lead the field.
“As soon as you change something, even a small detail on these cars, you can see big swings in both directions,” Charles Leclerc admitted, adding:
“Max and Red Bull brought a crazy upgrade this weekend. In Japan I think they didn’t even reach Q3, and now they are on the front row—it’s impressive. We also brought a very significant upgrade.”
He then added a moment of frustration:
“It seems like everyone is now closer together. Yes, it’s exciting, but I have to be honest: I just want Ferrari to be in front. We’ll see what happens tomorrow, we know our race pace is strong.”
Charles Leclerc was also not fully satisfied with his qualifying performance:
“Compared to yesterday it went a bit worse. We didn’t do a good job predicting where we would be in qualifying and how the grip would increase. We didn’t evaluate those aspects well.”
