Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc interview for French premium television channel Canal+:
Is there any advice that you’ve been given once in your life that you still use?
Charles Leclerc: “Since my earliest childhood, my father and Jules Bianchi have always told me, to stay with both feet on the ground, not only if I joined the F1 world one day. It’s true that sometimes in life, everything is going the way you want it to be. But in those moments, you have to stay humble and still try to improve because during that time, the others are working way harder to catch up. It’s one of the best advices that I received. I thought about it in every step of my career and it helped me massively.”
Do you love winning or do you hate losing ?
Charles Leclerc: “Both. But I think I hate losing more than I love winning! Because every time something goes wrong, I am super angry but maybe that’s when I grew the most..I hate losing and sometimes I just let out my anger. You heard it on the team radio last year. I try to do it after the race. During the Grand Prix, I try to stay in my bubble, because when you are mad, you can make mistakes more easily.”
Are you better in handling the pressure?
Charles Leclerc: “Honestly, I don’t think I have made progress on that point because since I have joined Ferrari, I have never felt it. When I came to Ferrari, it was pretty chill because I had Seb next to me, a 4-time world champion, so I had nothing to lose. Now I have Carlos Sainz next to me, but it is an extra motivation for me. It pushes me to prove what I am capable of on track. It is going to be interesting to see, how I will do compared to him.”
Do you feel like the leader of the team?
Charles Leclerc: “I don’t like when people call me the leader. Yes, I have more experience within Ferrari but in the end Carlos is also young and experienced even if it’s not within Ferrari. He is very quick. We’re going push each other”
Together with Carlos, you are the youngest pair of drivers at Ferrari since 1968, what do you think about that?
Charles: “It is cool. I get along very well with him. I hope it will work out on track too! It also shows that in F1, drivers are becoming ready earlier and earlier.”
