Charles Leclerc has shared some surprising insights about his relationship with his Ferrari teammate, Carlos Sainz.
Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz will only be teammates at Ferrari for a short while longer. The Spanish driver will be replaced by Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari and will move to Williams. However, with a few races still left to race together, the Monegasque driver has revealed some behind-the-scenes details.
During an exclusive interview on F1’s official podcast, Beyond The Grid, the number 16 driver discussed his personal relationship with his Maranello teammate. He also recounted some tense moments they experienced together in the Ferrari garage.
“Certainly, I will miss Carlos as a teammate. I will miss him first and foremost as a person. I’ve almost always had a good time with him. Sometimes from the outside, people tend to criticize and exaggerate what they see, but we have always been respectful of each other,” the Monegasque explained.
Of course, getting along doesn’t mean everything always goes smoothly in a competitive environment like Formula 1. “There were moments when, with the helmet on, I hated him. But that hatred was mutual. He, too, had moments on track where he hated me.”
“Despite this, once we got out of the car, we always managed to clear things up and resolve the arguments that were sometimes inevitable. Sometimes we didn’t share the same point of view, but we were always able to resolve these differences,” Charles Leclerc added.
“I’ve been fortunate to share the garage with drivers I’ve always gotten along with. I think it’s also part of my character. I don’t like having problems, and I don’t think I’ve ever really had any.” It remains to be seen how Charles Leclerc will get along now that he has to share the garage with a champion like Lewis Hamilton.
