Fifth fastest in FP2 at the Austrian GP for the Ferrari driver, who sat out the morning session to make room for Dino Beganovic
Half a day’s work
After skipping FP1 and handing over his car to talented Swedish youngster Dino Beganovic, Charles Leclerc returned to the cockpit for the second free practice session to begin his Austrian GP weekend. The Monegasque set the fifth-fastest time in FP2, behind the untouchable McLarens, Max Verstappen, and the surprising Aston Martin of Lance Stroll.
The Ferrari driver—who also had an off-track excursion into the gravel without consequences—commented on the session, highlighting both the positives from this Friday and a feeling with the SF-25 that remains far from ideal.
Unsatisfactory feeling.
“I got in the car for the first time today during the second session and felt comfortable on track,” said the #16 Ferrari, “but I still can’t say I’m completely satisfied with the feeling in the car. As usual, our race pace is good, but we need to work a bit to improve in qualifying trim, so we can start further up the grid and fight at the front on Sunday.”
Saturday remains Ferrari’s major weakness at this stage of the season: except for Monaco—whose track layout is obviously unique— Charles Leclerc has not qualified higher than seventh since the Miami GP.
