The three podium finishers in the 2022 Austrian Grand Prix, namely Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton have each been fined €10,000 for a breach of the parc ferme regulations, the stewards have confirmed.
All three drivers were summoned after today’s Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg due to the fact that the stewards were sent a report from the media delegate, that was subsequently confirmed by video evidence.
The issue was that the physio / drivers’ assistants of the top three finishers entered parc ferme without permission and in violation of the procedure that was published ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix weekend “for the orderly conduct of the event”.
In part the idea behind this new rule is to avoid handing over of items to the drivers ahead of the official weighing procedure. As a result, Charles Leclerc, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton are each fined €10,000, which will be suspended for the remainder of the 2022 Formula One championship pending any further violation of the procedure, while the three have been warned that the passes of the individuals concerned may be revoked in case of systemic violation. But instead of handing out severe penalties, the panel opted to give Ferrari, Red Bull and Mercedes suspended fines of €10,000. As such, the podium places – and the final result of the Grand Prix – remain as they were.

Speculation that all three have been detained for further checks on their underwear and jewellery are thought to be wide of the mark.
